Get Involved: What Makes HCCM a Great Place to Volunteer

Hello there! How are you doing? Feeling good? Looking to start something new? Well, you came to the right place. Welcome to Hill Country Community Ministries. We are a nonprofit organization that started as a food pantry, but we have blossomed into so much more. We have many programs that reach out to the community that have nothing to do with food at all. Such as giving students brand new athletic shoes or passing out coats and blankets during the winter. Not to mention that we serve over eight hundred families a week through all our food distribution opportunities. Sounds like an exciting place right!? Well, if you are still not sold that’s okay! Because today I’m going to give you five reasons why you should volunteer with us.

1.      This is the place to be!

If you were to spend an entire day hanging out in the HCCM parking lot, you would quickly understand how many people are coming through here every day. From staff to, volunteers, to clients, to even all the donations we receive during the day. You would feel like you are missing out on something and if I’m honest with you probably are! As an organization it takes so many individuals to come together to pull off what we do day to day and of course it all starts with our volunteers.

2.      It feels good to do good!

Have you ever been out and about and you do a random act of kindness? Doesn’t that feel amazing? Well, there’s a reason for that. When we commit good deeds our brain releases endorphins that give us a feeling of joy and satisfaction. This is also known as the “helpers high”. Which means we were created to feel this way and we should all be striving to find a way to help our neighbors in the community. Some studies even say that these acts can lead to longer life expectancy and reduce stress, along with other great health benefits.

3.      We offer community service opportunities

If you are someone in need of community service, this is a great opportunity for you to clear your hours. Anyone that needs service can help in many ways from ages 12-112. All you have to do is go to our website and find the “how to help” tab on our website and them find volunteer. Once you clicked that, you will see our volunteer applications for either the food pantry or thrift store. Click on the application you wish to apply for, apply, submit, and wait for us to get back to you. (It may take a few days so please be patient). Once accepted you can pick your shifts that work around your schedule.

 4.      Make new friends

One of my favorite things about HCCM is our culture. We have some of the best of the best when it comes to our volunteers. They have some of the biggest hearts and always go above and beyond to help us achieve our goals. Another great thing about the people of HCCM is they have some great personalities if you ask me. We are usually very busy but believe it or not there is some down time during our shifts and that’s you will probably have the most laughs. At HCCM we deal with people that are going through hard times but that doesn't mean we cant make it fun! During the shifts our volunteers will crack jokes and try to bright the day of everyone around them including you.

5.      We need you

Our staff is not very large which means we rely heavily on our volunteers to make this ship flow smoothly out to sea. From picking up food to serving clients to even organizing our storage areas. They do it all and do a fantastic job at all of it. We even have some volunteers that have created their own job that we didn’t even that we needed. So with that being said there’s something here for everyone to do and no job is too small.

Hopefully you learned a little more about us and you’re supper excited or maybe intrigued about checking us out. So please do! Come on by, help those who need it, make a new friend, and leave knowing you made a impact today.
