How to Help

Volunteer

Volunteering at Hill Country Community Ministries offers a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. Our organization thrives on the dedication and compassion of our volunteers, who contribute their time, skills, and energy to support our mission of breaking the grip of hardship, hunger and hopelessness.

Join our team today by filling out an application for either our thrift store or food pantry below.

After submitting your application, you'll receive an email detailing the next steps in the process.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

Food Pantry

  • Food Pantry volunteers actively engage in tasks such as assembling client food orders, organizing incoming food donations, and ensuring shelves are consistently stocked. We offer both morning and afternoon shifts from Monday to Friday, providing flexibility to fit different schedules.
  • Volunteer caseworkers who play a crucial role in our client support services. As a case manager, you will conduct client interviews, carefully evaluate their unique needs, offer well-informed assistance suggestions, and connect them with relevant referrals when necessary. Don't worry if you're new to this – training will be provided to equip you for this meaningful role.
  • Volunteer drivers pick up day-old bread, pastries, produce and other items from participating area grocery stores using your own vehicle. Pick-ups are made in the morning.
  • Volunteers are also needed to mow grass and maintain the property, including interior and exterior repairs, painting, and carpentry. Major projects are scheduled for Saturdays and provide an ideal volunteer opportunity for small groups from churches. General "fix-it" volunteers are needed on weekdays to do odd jobs such as changing A/C filters, making small repairs, and picking up parts for repairs on an as-needed basis.
  • Volunteers with a good driving record and the ability to drive a 1.5-ton truck are needed to pick up donated food and deliver it to HCCM.

To volunteer for any of these Food Pantry opportunities, please complete the volunteer application here:  Volunteer Application

Once you complete the application, you will receive further instructions to access our Volunteer Portal where you can choose shifts that best fit your schedule.

Thrift Store

  • Store volunteers:  Greet and assist shoppers and clients, sort and size clothing, receive donations, and stock the shelves and clothes racks. Shifts are available Monday through Saturday, from 9:30am to 6:00pm.
  • Truck drivers:  Volunteers with a good driving record and the ability to drive a 1.5 ton truck are needed to pick up donated household goods and deliver to HCCM Thrift Store.  Hours are flexible.
