If you want to be in the know about what’s going on at our organization, you’ve come to the right place.

Meet Steve Childress

We are excited to welcome Steve Childress to our team as our new Food Distribution Associate. Steve will play a crucial role in our mission to combat hunger in our community. In his position, he will be instrumental in our food distribution efforts, including our Fresh Food For All program, ensuring that nutritious food reach those who need it most.

We asked Steve to share a little bit about himself and here’s what he told us:

I am the son of an Air Force master sergeant, and I spent most of my childhood in San Antonio, TX. I received a BS in Chemistry from Texas Lutheran University in 1986 and then completed my MS in Inorganic Chemistry from Texas Tech University in 1989. After working as an analytical chemist for a specialty chemical company for 10 years, I worked for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality as a quality assurance specialist/chemist. I retired from the state of Texas this past January after over 26 years of state service.

I have twin daughters who will begin their junior year of college this fall. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano, reading, mountain biking, and traveling as time allows.

We asked Steve the following questions to get to know him a little better:

Q:  What’s your favorite childhood TV show?  Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Machine.

Q:  What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Don’t dwell on your past mistakes.  Live your life being fully present in the moment.

Q:  What’s your favorite childhood memory?  Vacationing with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins every summer at our family cabin on Lake Carlos in Minnesota.

Q:  If you could have a lifetime supply of one food item, what would it be?  It would probably be lasagna or any other Italian dish with pasta!

Q:  If you could safely observe any natural disaster up close, which one would you choose to witness?   I would love to experience up close the spawning of a tornado, as I’m obsessed with all things weather-related.

Thanks Steve and welcome to the HCCM family!
