Gene is taking on the role of Director of Operations. We asked Gene to share a little bit about himself and asked him a few fun questions about his new role.
I was new to the nonprofit world and began my HCCM journey as the Director of Community Engagement. I was already known throughout my career and by friends and family as a people person and I had some Chamber of Commerce Ambassador experience, but this was something new and challenging and so different than my past career. I immediately found fulfillment in knowing that my efforts and relationships helped our organization continue our mission and helped others discover us. It was the first time in over 30 years that my efforts were not connected to profits on the bottom line.
What are you most excited about in your new role? In my new role I am excited to be able to share my experience and skills to help HCCM be more successful. I look forward to the opportunity to make a positive impact on the organization.
What do you like most about HCCM? What I like most about HCCM is that it is much different than corporate America in the sense that our success if measured by the amount of support we can give to the community versus profit on the bottom line. At the end of the day, it is rewarding to know my efforts went towards supporting someone in our community.
If you could choose a fictional character to be your mentor in this new role, who would it be and why? I would choose Star Lord from the movie “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Star Lord would bring a sense of humor and lighten the mood when things are challenging. I am always focused on the solution and at times I get focused on the task at hand and Star Lord would help me find balance and we both dig the same music!
What's the most exciting thing about your new role that makes you want to jump out of bed every morning? What excites me the most about my new role is being able to utilize my background and experience to help the organization. I look forward to the challenge of helping us be more efficient and helping us grow our community outreach. I look forward to interacting with more members of the organization on a daily basis.
If you had a magic wand to solve one challenge in your new position, what would it be and why? If I had a magic wand, it would be in the shape of the most amazing tool. It would be a tool that with one wave could fix anything broken and with 2 waves would enlighten me with the knowledge and wisdom to solve any dilemma or obstacle that we faced.
