Rescuing Food in our Community

Hill Country Community Ministries is grateful for the strong support of 17 local retail and restaurant partners who help keep our shelves stocked and our neighbors fed. Each day, dedicated volunteers use their personal vehicles to pick up end-of-day donations from area stores, collecting fresh produce, bakery items, deli selections, dairy products, and meat.

We are especially thankful for the generous weekly contributions from H-E-B (six locations), Sprouts Farmers Market, Natural Grocers, Target, and Whole Foods Market, which together donate thousands of pounds of food each week. Local restaurants also play an important role in this effort, including Paris Baguette, Papa Johns, and three locations of Chick-fil-A.

These donations are distributed through our pantry, Community Cupboard, and Fresh Food for All distributions—ensuring that nutritious food reaches families throughout our community. Last year alone, our retail rescue program brought in an incredible 494,000 pounds of food for our neighbors.

We are truly honored to partner with such generous businesses that share our commitment to making a positive impact. Each year, we make a special visit to thank our partners in person. This year, we presented each one with a certificate of appreciation and a loaf of homemade pumpkin bread as a small token of our heartfelt gratitude.

We also extend our deepest thanks to our faithful volunteer drivers who give their time Monday through Friday, week after week, to collect and deliver these donations. Their dedication makes this program possible, and their service is a gift to our entire community.
