As is true for any charity, volunteers are the backbone of everything that we do here at the HCCM Thrift Store. Many of our volunteers have been with us for many years, some even since before the thrift store was fully realized, when it was still just the clothes closet at the food pantry. When asked why they started volunteering, and have continued over the years, the main reason comes down to camaraderie and the “family” they have found among their fellow volunteers, as well as the staff.
This was certainly the sentiment shared by both Cindy and Pam. Cindy has been with HCCM since before the store came to be, and Pam started September 2019, the store having opened in June. Both say that they were drawn by the mission, and have stayed for the community. Dorothy also, who has likewise been volunteering with HCCM for many years, says that, in her retirement, volunteering for HCCM has given her something to look forward to every day, and that she enjoys making a difference and helping people find their thrift store treasures.
We love our longtime volunteers, and are always looking for more to come and join our team. No matter how often, or for how long a time, you would like to help out, please visit our website at HCCM.org. You are also always welcome to come by and visit us, talk with our staff and current volunteers, and learn about all the ways you can help us continue aiding our community.
