Summer is one of the best times of year to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables. Local produce is at its peak, often tastes better, and can be more affordable than out of season options. Whether you pick it up at the grocery store, a farmers market, or through one of our food distributions, seasonal produce is a simple way to add color, flavor, and nutrition to your meals.
Many summer favorites are packed with vitamins and are easy to use in everyday recipes. Tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, corn, peaches, berries, and watermelon are all in season during the Texas summer. Toss them into a salad, grill them alongside your favorite protein, blend them into a smoothie, or enjoy them fresh as a healthy snack. If you have more than you can use, many fruits and vegetables can be frozen for later, helping reduce food waste and stretch your grocery budget.
At Hill Country Community Ministries, we are committed to helping our neighbors enjoy healthy, nutritious food all year long. Through our Food Pantry and Fresh Food For All distributions, we work to provide fresh produce whenever possible so families can prepare wholesome meals at home. We hope you'll take advantage of the abundance of the season and discover a new favorite fruit or vegetable this summer.
