What’s next??? How about THIS?!
5.9 acres here in Leander, Texas, ONLY 3 miles from the current food pantry. This is where the future home of Hill Country Community Ministries (HCCM) begins…. WOW!!!!
Three years ago, HCCM kicked off its capital campaign to raise money for a new food pantry and resource center right here on Lacy Dr., where the food pantry has been in its portable building since 1985. The big looming question was always, “Where will the food pantry go while we build?” The thought of relocating a food pantry that serves 150+ families every day, Monday through Friday, and distributes over 1 million pounds of food annually made us cringe.
However, what other options did we have? Well…. In the past three years, HCCM has had multiple opportunities, ranging from receiving donated land from a church to a foundation that was going to build a resource center for us, to purchasing a 30,000 sq. ft. building to create a non-profit mall.
Six months ago, when I shared with you that we had to terminate the contract on the 30,000 s.f. building, I was heartbroken. I just knew this was the place to be. “It felt good,” as one of our prayer warriors indicated to me. And I couldn’t have agreed more. When that contract ended, I took a few days to mourn that loss. Yet I remembered something that a woman shared with me many, many moons ago. She said, “When you pray to God, He will answer your prayers in one of four ways:
No, I love you too much
No, not yet
Yes, I thought you would never ask
Yes, and here is more
Nearly 120 days ago, HCCM made an offer to purchase 5.9 acres. YES, I have been VERY quiet about this project, as I never thought it would be possible with all the other bumps in the road. Through our advisory committee and our board of directors, after doing our due diligence and feasibility, this past Thursday evening, they voted UNANIMOUSLY to move forward with the purchase of this land and build the future home of Hill Country Community Ministries.
God willing, albeit no disasters, unexpected surprises, etc., HCCM will close on this land on December 5th. This is a phased project, with us building a 15,000 s.f. resource center that will include a new food pantry.
There is A LOT of work still needed to be done. There is STILL A LOT of money that needs to be raised. Yet I still cannot help but think that for all those answers to our prayers, we may have received, “Yes, and here is more.”
PLEASE be on the watch for our newsletters, social media, and website for invitations to another prayer walk ceremony soon after we close. We will hang a banner that says, “Future Home of Hill Country Community Ministries.” Once we get through the horizontal development and approval process, we will have a groundbreaking ceremony. I go out to the property quite often, walking it, praying, and talking to God, asking for HIS direction. What is it HE wants us to do???? If you would like to be a part of my 30-minute walks, PLEASE reach out.
As always, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate YOU, your love, your trust, your support, and your LOVE for serving HCCM and our community. I am always available to meet for coffee, answer any questions, and have conversations about what it is our community needs.
We will revamp our capital campaign VERY soon, so be on the lookout for more information!!!! Thank you!!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!
