We are pleased to introduce you to Aleah Huerta, our talented case manager intern. Aleah joined HCCM in January and has been making significant contributions to our team, particularly in case management and our pathways program. She's also been instrumental in creating resumes and job postings for our pathways clients.
During her time with us at HCCM, Aleah has consistently demonstrated exceptional skills and dedication. Her work has been invaluable to our organization. Without further ado, allow me to present Aleah Huerta.
Q: Tell me a little about yourself.
Aleah: I'm a first-generation grad student at Spring Arbor University, originally from Michigan but now living in Austin for the past two years. Beyond my studies, I'm certified as a yoga and meditation teacher and serve as the Kids Yoga Director. Professionally, I also work as an office manager. In my downtime, I thrive outdoors—hiking and exploring local coffee shops. As the eldest of five siblings, I strive to set a positive example and be a role model for them.
Q: Can you share a specific moment or experience during your time volunteering at HCCM that stands out to you? What made it memorable?
Aleah: The Mardi Gras Gala was incredibly impactful for me. It was my first experience attending an event where an entire community gathered to raise funds for those in need. Being part of an organization like HCCM, which is dedicated to giving back to the community, was truly beautiful and inspiring.
Q: Describe a challenge you faced while volunteering at HCCM. How did you overcome it, and what did you learn from the experience?
Aleah: Balancing the demands of graduate school, work, and my internship has been quite challenging. However, the meaningful work and supportive environment at HCCM have made me deeply grateful to contribute to positive change. By prioritizing tasks and managing my time effectively, I've learned the importance of resilience and perseverance in achieving my goals.
Q: How has volunteering at HCCM influenced your perspective on community service and social responsibility?
Aleah: Volunteering at HCCM has broadened my perspective on community service and social responsibility in profound ways. It has motivated me to educate myself about different cultures and languages. For instance, I plan to enroll in a Spanish language course after graduation to better serve our diverse community. This experience has reinforced my commitment to making a meaningful impact and helping others in the most effective ways possible.
